Alkarama has organised a training course for human rights defenders in Doha, Qatar, 28-30 March 2007.
This course was taken by more than 25 human rights lawyers and activists from many Arab countries.

 

Doha Training Course

 

The main topics addressed in this course were:

·        A historical overview of human rights;

·        How to guarantee human rights in armed conflicts;

·        Comparative study of human rights in Arab constitutions;

·        Human dignity, human rights and the prohibition of torture in Islam;

·        Human rights in international law;

·        Special procedures regarding the UN Human Rights Council;

·        UN mechanisms for the protection of human rights;

·        Human rights defenders: rights, duties, and bodies protecting them;

·        NGOs’ role in promoting human rights;

·        Practical sessions: how to compose communications to UN bodies

The courses were run by Messrs. Hamid Al Ali, Abbas Aroua, Ahmed Karoud, Haytham Manna, Rachid Mesli, Mubarak Al Mutawa, Mutaz Qafisheh and El Moustafa Soulaih.

In view of this initiative’s great success, Alkarama plans to organise similar courses in other Arab countries.
