Alkarama learned that 15 people were arrested at dawn on 20 August 2009. Members of the security services in Al-Buheiri accompanied by Special Forces belonging to the Central Police, forced their way into the homes of these men and arrested them. They are all currently being held in two of the security services' detention centers in Al-Buheiri.

Detainees at the Kafr Al-Duwar center include:

3. Adel Abdelwahab Marji
4. Yahia Ibrahim Abdelati
5. Yasser Ali Abdelrafeh
6. Ibrahim Mustafa Abu Al-Saud
7. Sami Muhammed Abdelmuhsin
8. Usama Ahmed Abdelnabi
9. Hazem Kamel Suleiman
10. Muhammed Muhammed Yahia Hajazi

Those detained at Idku include:

11. Al-Sayid Darwish Mu'nis
12. Ali Mahmud Taha
13. Suleiman Mohammed Ash-Sheikh
14. Abderrahim Naji Sarhan
15. Fathallah Mansour

Since their arrest, no information whatsoever has been given with regards to their detention. Alkarama is closely monitoring the situation of those individuals and will submit their cases to UN procedures for violations of their rights.

Egypt ratified the Convention against Torture on 25 June 1986 and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights on 14 January 1982 and pledged to respect its principles.

We recall that Egypt will be considered under the UPR of the Council of Human Rights in early 2010. Alkarama will present a report in this context.
