Nasser Al-Hajiri, arrested on16 December 2007 during his pilgrimage to Mecca, has been detained for more than two and a half years without charge or trial despite being afflicted by a worsening cancer in the form of a brain tumour. His health currently in a critical state and his family and other observers have become seriously concerned for his life.

Alkarama sent urgent appeals today to the Special Rapporteur on Health, the Special Rapporteur on Torture and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. This follows numerous submissions of his case by Alkarama over the past year.

Alkarama calls on the Saudi Authorities to immediately release Nasser Al-Hajiri, and compensate him and his family for the last two and a half years he has spent in arbitrary detention.
