At dawn on 8 May 2001 Hisham Mahmoud Diab, 51, a dual citizen of Dutch and Egyptian nationalitiy was arrested by State Security forces at his home in Heliopolis, Cairo. He was then tried and sentenced by a Military Court, despite being a civilian, to three years imprisonment.
Alkarama has received news from Egypt regarding the arrests of two separate groups in Al-Buheira and Munufeya Governorate.

12 Muslim Brotherhood members arrested in Al-Buhira

On 26 September 2009, the following 12 people were arrested by State Security forces in Al-Buhira:

1. Mohamed Gamal Ahmed Heshmat (Assistant Professor, Institute of Medicine of the Alexandria University)
2. Mohamed Mohsen Ibrahim Swaidan (retired)

Alkarama has just received news of two further extrajudicial killings by Egyptian security forces.
On 15 September 2009, Dr. Abdel Ghaffar's detention was prolonged for a further 15 day period. The 6th such extension since his arrest on 2 July 2009.

On 17 May 2009, during a raid on a family celebration by State Security Investigative (SSI) forces, a group of 26 Egyptian nationals (16 of whom are currently detained) were arrested at Ahmed Hussein Eid's apartment in Damanhur, Al-Bahira governorate.
Abdullah Awad was arrested on 25 March 2009 at his home in Al-Arish, northern Sinai, by State Security Intelligence (SSI) and held incommunicado for 2 months at their headquarters in Nasr City, Cairo, during which time he was brutally tortured.

On 11 September 2009, Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the Special Rapporteur on Torture asking him to intervene with the Egyptian authorities in order to guarantee the physical and psychological integrity of Mr Abdullah Awad.

Alkarama has received information from Egypt regarding two individuals arrested on 1 September 2009, currently held incommunicado at State Security Intelligence (SSI) headquarters in Al-Arish, Northern Sinai.

Reliable sources indicate that Ghannam Said Mahmoud and Alaa Issa, two teachers from Al-Arish, were arrested after Taraweeh prayer on 1 September 2009 as they were leaving their local mosque.

The lifeless body of Mr Magdi Marei was thrown from a police car on 11 July 2009 near the village of Arimon in Al-Beheira Governorate, in the northwest of Egypt.
Alkarama has received new information regarding the case of 33 individuals arrested in Suez on 17 August 2009 accused of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, a banned group under the State of Emergency Law of 1958.
