On 19 September 2024, Alkarama submitted a complaint to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) on behalf of Dr. Hossam Abouelezz, former governor of Qalyubia, who has been arbitrarily detained since September 2013.

Geneva, June 1, 2024 – Alkarama submitted a follow-up report to the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) urging its Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) to downgrade Egypt's National Council for Human Rights (NCHR).

The families of political prisoners in the Badr Prison, north-east of Cairo, have called for the right to visit their loved ones and for the lifting of the restrictions imposed on the prisoners.

 

Human rights organizations that signed this statement express their grave concern about the severe violations committed by the Egyptian authorities inside the "Badr Rehabilitation and Correction Center" also known as the "Badr Prisons Complex 1, 2, 3". These actions constitute a flagrant violation of the Egyptian constitution, laws, international treaties, and conventions, as well as a clear violation of the minimum standards for the treatment of prisoners established by the United Nations.

Alkarama recently submitted a list of 22 issues to the UN Committee against Torture for its experts to raise with the Egyptian authorities for the next consideration of Egypt's sixth periodic report.
